The Spurrell's of England and Wales

It has been suggested that this name is derived from the village of Sporle, near Swaffham, and it is recorded that a William de Sporle, was in the city of Norwich as early as 1349.

The connections between this family and the one originating in Scotland are unclear.

In 1602, the Sprule family was living in a little place called Walton's Parish in Buckinghamshire, England.

This family was also present in the counties of Norfolk and Bath. A branch migrated in the 1790's (possibly earlier) to Wales and settled in Carmarthen. (St. Peter's)

The earliest book ever printed in Bath, The elements of chronology, was printed in 1730 by a Robert Spurrell, a schoolmaster in the city and grandfather of the auctioneer, John Spurrell, who settled in Wales. The first located printing press in Carmarthen was set up by William Spurrell on April 11, 1840.

William Spurrell wrote a book on Carmarthen's history. Carmarthen and its Neighbourhood.
