Comments: My grandmother was Italia Ella Spruell(as spelled on her tombstone in Roswell Ga at the Powers cemetary) She married Joseph Scott Power and had 13 living children along with several miscarriages. She was 14 years younger than her husband and died shortly after the last child was born in 1909. I think she was only 43 at that time. Joseph Scott lived on for the next 10 years and his son Stephen Norman Power was my father. He helped with his sisters and married Edna Augusta Wilbanks . They had 5 children of their own. Comments: Hello, I am delighted to find this webpage with so much information on the Spruill family and on other variations of the name. My father and his family all came from Alabama. My cousin and I have traced these Spruills back several generations. Dr. Thomas Wesley Spruill and his father, John Spruill of Abbeville District, So. Carolina is as far as we have been able to go back. However, we believe that John Spruill was the grandson of Dr. Godfrey Spruill who came to Virginia in the 1600's. My family is descended from Adam Sproul born 20.11.1810 near Paisley Scotland Died 1892, married to Maria Orpen who was born near Killarney, Kerry Ireland on December 28, 1815. Adam Sproul had travelled to Van Dieman's Land with a detachment of guards in the convict ship 'Strathfieldsaye' which sailed from Woolwich on July 8 1831, arriving in Hobart Town in November. One of our relations has written a book which details the pioneering families of Tasmania and has the family history for both the Sproules and the Orpens.

Comments: I am searching for Sproule inofrmation. Have some info dating to about 1650 Robert Spreul in Cowdenknowes Scotland. He apparantly died in Co Tyrone, Ireland. The family came to Canada later and the lines I know mostly settled in Quebec and some in Ontario.

Comments: This site is fantastic, I have been trying for a long time to find information on the Spurrell name but I always end up with nothing. I was born in Montreal, Canada. What I so far about my roots is very little, I know My Great Grandfather was a travilling salesmen in NewFoundland In the late 1800's. I read in a book of Newfoundland names that the said the Spurrell's came to Newfoundland in the form of three brothers from England, All three settled in differant parts of the Island, Pools Island, Butter Cove and St Johns. I would be very greatfull If anyone can shead some more llite on the name in either Newfoundland or main land Canada. Thanks PS I also have a coat of Arms whish is susposed to the Spurrell's. coat of arms.
