The Athlone Sproule’s since 1669
This account was written in August 1904 at New Bushey Herts, by Eveline Henrietta Berford Fairbrother.  Updated by James Sproule, London April 2003.  It is said that Captain John Sproule and two brothers, came to Ireland in the mid 17th Century; Captain John to Athlone, another brother to County Donnegal and another to County Tyrone.

  • Robert Sproule of Miami County, Ohio, formerly of County Tyrone, Ireland : and some of his descendants with lineage of families...Wright, Hazel Sproul, Robert Sproule (1775-1858) was born in County Tyrone, Ireland. His sister, Sallie Sproule, married ______ Hayes, a widower with a daughter, and immigranted to South Carolina, between 1787 and 1793. This is available from an LDS Family History Center.

  • My Lowther family. by C. T. Lowther. 1927- . Willliam Lowther (b.1642) was the son of George Lowther and Elizabeth Fitzgerald of Ingleton, England and Moate, County Westmeath, Ireland. William joined the Quaker faith in 1675. He married Jane Kelso, the daughter of the Reverend Robert Kelso of Scotland, in 1671. She was from Inniskillen, Ulster and bore two children before her death in 1677. William next married Isabel Lancaster in 1679. They moved to Tobler, Kings County (now Offaly County, Ireland. They had six children between 1681 and 1697, including William (b.1694). William, Jr. emigrated to the American colonies in 1729 and first settled at Abington, Philadelphia County. He was a member of the Quaker Monthly Meeting at Abington. Later, the family moved to near Doylestown, Bucks County. His wife was Martha and they raised six children. Descendants lived in Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Kansas, California and elsewhere. Twenty or more generations of ancestors are given. Includes Lancaster, Welbury, Sproule, Horn, Layborne, Fitzgerald and other related families.

  • Hopper - Caldwell - Yates and allied families in the Ottawa Valley. Eagles, Douglas Eaton, 1927. Arthur Hopper (1784-1872) married Anne Sparling in 1807, and the family immigrated in 1822 from Ireland to Montreal, Quebec, moving later to Nepean, Ontario and later to Hopperville (now Huntley), Ontario. Descendants and relatives lived in Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Texas, California and elsewhere in the United States.Includes Alderson, Maxwell, Sparling, Sproule and related families.

  • Raised by his own bootstraps : a biography of Leonard Sproul / Leonard Sproul ; as told to Karl Larson. Leonard Murry Sproul (1900- ) was the son of Andrew Sproul, Jr. and Evaline Chidester. He married Emma Lucy Grace Gates, Velva Chdester, and Elaine Platts Osborne. Descendants live in Utah, California, and elsewhere. Includes Chidester, Jolley, Hamilton, Hullinger, Matthews, Wignall and related families.

Family members lived in Scotland, and some immigrated to Ireland and America.

  • The John Treber family . compiled by H. Marjorie Crawford ; with the assistance of Hazel L. Sproull and Grace M. Sproull. John Treber (d.1827/1828) married three times and moved from Pennsylvania to Kentucky and then to Adams County, Ohio. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio and elsewhere. Includes Crawford, Sproull, Thoroman and related families.
